Just got back from work, where I’ve spent most of the afternoon talking to the other post-doc on this Brueelia project: Julie Allen who works with Kevin in Illinois. She was here to collect a sample of Degeeriella vagans (Giebel, 1874) from a Goshawk Accipiter gentilis (Linnaeus, 1758) for a student of theirs. The discussion covered lice, creationism, Africa, racism, traveling in Europe, and other things, and was really nice.
In my mailbox was a letter from Gothenburg, containing a small bag of ginger bread cookies, and a note with the following text:
vill ha email till
(All misspellings in original)
“bioinformatik”, “totalsekvensiering” and “leddjur” are written in a different hand. The rest seems to be written in the same hand, but this is not the one that wrote the address on the envelope.
The note is a lined A4 sheet, folded in quarters, but with no other data to identify the sender. However, the sender apparently had my home address here in Utah (though with South and East reversed), so they evidently have some way to get data about where I am from some unidentified source that possibly also doesn’t have my email address.
The ginger breads are all smashed and probably unsalvageable as anything other than crumbs. Thus, this bribe has failed to acheive its purpose.
The email addresses “firstname.lastname@example.org” and “email@example.com” do not exist. I’ve also mailed “firstname.lastname@example.org” and “email@example.com”, and so far there is no error message, but the third letter does not look like a “u”, so I don’t think the owners of either of those addresses is the sender of the mail.
The letter was post marked in Gothenburg, and the stamp is the 21st of December, so if anyone might know who this person is, please let me know. also, if so, shame on you for giving this person my home address but not the email address.
Incidentally, Tokyo Fashion published this Birthday-related picture collection recently, which I assume is a request that I dress more colourfully and extravagantly in the coming year. I will do my best!
